2. How does your product engage with audiences and how would it be distributed as a real media text?1/29/2021 My magazine is taking two approaches to the audience. The first approach is that I included a few places from the canyon that many tourists may not notice or did not visit on their first time. My target audience are the people who does not have a plan, so including a few unique places and adding some eye grabbing description would be an important aspect of my magazine cover. It will capture my audience and give them the idea that this magazine has many fun places. My second approach is challenging what other travel magazine might include in their content. Usually, magazine would focus on the hotels, rides, tours, and places. My magazine, however, use more description on the history of the places and fun facts, it makes my magazine look more information. In addition, I would like my audience to feel relaxed when they read my magazine, so the content will be spread over the pages, making light and easy to read. The cover is also including bright colors that adds on with the color of the background, using the word voyage is also getting my audience to explore more about the canyon. The picture for the background is also showing a part of the canyon, grabbing the attention of people who has no plan, clearly stating that this is a travel magazine.
My magazine would be distributed through bookstores and websites, giving the audience more freedom for choosing their preference. At first, my magazine would be advertised through mails, many customers might have pop up on their screen or advertisements shown across websites because they research something related. I will also advertise through fliers or brochures; they will have less content, but they can attract customer’s attention and letting the audience know about my magazine. All the advertising is use for raising attention and getting them interested. My next step is to display my magazine through websites and bookstores. I can display my magazine in events housed in libraries, distribute them in bookstores or newsstands. They will also be display online through my own websites created especially for the magazine, this way I can create and establish my own brand, leaving the consumers with a deeper impression. I would also put a link on the website so consumers can purchase a copy. The best time for my distribution would be every three months: March, June, September, December. Those months are associated with breaks, since I target families then they will be more likely to travel during school breaks. My magazine cover is structure and formatted like normal travel magazine would be like, I have the mast head, the date, the barcode, etc. Like other travel magazine, I also have the different scenery and information about the beauty of Grand Canyon. The only difference is that my magazine is more informative, and fact based, I did not include any advertisements in my cover. Magazines are usually filled with advertisements or introduction of amazing hotels or other luxuries. I challenge that convention and use a more informative and history type of approach for my magazine. The goal is to spread knowledge and describe Grand Canyon in a different way.
My target audience is the people who doesn’t have a plan in mind and those are usually families or working-class people who does not want to create a plan. The working class is usually very busy and rarely takes a break off. They work in a highly advance and fast-moving society. The issues that I want to present is that the entrepreneurs, engineers, people who work tirelessly in their position deserves a break. I want my magazine to be relaxing and slow paced, they can look into it and read the fun facts and stories behind the scenery. The articles will be formatted into different small sections so that my audience will not have to have a headache reading a long block of text. For the people who like to slow down and enjoy the beauty, my magazine will provide the perfect plan and list of events for them to enjoy their vacation. The video starts off with diegetic sound, the music from the radio in the background, giving the audience the idea that he is driving somewhere he is not very pleasant with. The silent atmosphere in the waiting room also displays how the character is not happy and is very awkward sitting there. The silence also appears again during the conversation he has with the psychiatrist. The silence occurs after the non-diegetic sound or their dialog, it appears very abrupt and standing out. This appeals to the audience and shows that the character does not believe he has a problem; he does not really want to be with the psychiatrist. He also shows his impatient and nervousness when he comes into the room and during the conversation, his tone contradicts with the clam tone of the psychiatrist. This further proves that he is uncomfortable with what he is about to say. At this point when the character starts to describe his flashback, non-diegetic sound comes in, this is to show that the flashback is important, and it reveals his conflict with the ducks and his family. The ducks appear with soundtrack music, their appearance represents happiness. However, this is contradicted with how his family members look at this; Their tone when they look at the guy playing with the ducks in the pool is very sarcastic and ridiculous. They did not think that it is something to be happy about. During the flashback, the character inserts a few narrations, the audience can clearly identify that this is a flashback because his voice is in the background.

Meaning/ Rough draft
The different camera shots in the video show the audience the actions or movements of the characters, dolly or tracking shot allow the audience to follow their movements. The use of close shot, perspective shot, and eye level shot of the characters is showing their facial expressions, the things they are focusing on. The audience can get a better understanding of how the character behaves or feel towards the people and things in the video. Reverse shot is commonly used for conversations so the audience can follow along and understand the situation, creating a sense of reality and involvement in the conversation. Eye line match of mom looking outside, she is looking at the guy in the pool playing with the ducks. The editing of this scene displays the attitude that she has of the way the guy is acting towards the ducks. The editing of the house during the transition to the flashback is fast forward from night to morning. The house was taken with an establishing long shot, giving a better understanding of the setting. In the beginning of the video, the diegetic sound of the music plays in the car but when the scene cuts to the waiting room, the complete silence and awkwardness of the guy show how tense and nervous he is for this meeting. The nervous tone he has with the psychiatrist show how uncomfortable he is with the topic they are having; it contrasts with the bright and happy tone he has when he is playing with the duck. During his flashback asynchronous gradually comes in, emphasizing how important the flashback is. From the way he speaks with the duck, he is proud and happy with his actions but the way his family reacts or speaks about the duck is in a very ridiculous and negative tone. The mise en scene in the video displayed a big contrast between the mood, feeling, and atmosphere of the guy in the office and pool. He wears dark and formal cloths for the meeting with the psychiatrist, showing formality and tension. However, when he is playing with the ducks in the pool, the loose robe, messy undergarments, shows that he is relaxed and happy. The light is also different, the office is dim and low while the pool is bright and sunny. The details of the props in the video suggest that the guy is very happy and proud of what he is doing with the ducks. However, the others doesn’t show support, instead, they show a negative and sarcastic attitude. |
