I choose this layout as one of my choices for the TOC because it is organized, and every chapter for topic has a picture involved. It has a different way of showing the picture than other magazines that mostly shows the whole view instead of cutting off pieces. I like this format because I was attracted to the pictures and wanted to get a better view of the entire photo. I think that this format created a mysterious feel. It does match my initial idea of the cover, mysterious but exploring something new, but the background color wouldn’t match my cover and the pictures wouldn’t stand out if I use a darker color for the background. So, there are some changes needed for this layout. This TOC is quite simple, there are no pictures involved. I chose this because it can be changed easily but still has a layout. It is very easy to alter the color, background, placement of the text, and the space needed for the content. I could add pictures if I wanted and have more free space to work on than other layouts. It also goes along with my cover with the way the content is placed, and it can match my design well. I think this is a really good layout that can go with any theme and you can add pictures on your own. For example, if I’m going to use this then I would definitely change the color of the text and add pictures around the content so that everything appears to be interesting and not dull. This is my last choice for TOC and the one that I like the most. Even though the first two all have their advantages, but I think the first two are either too complex for pictures or too simple for the layout. This one, however, is easy to look at, there is also a part of the picture being covered and the format is easy to read too. It is like a combination of the first two. The overall view of this TOC is very formal, neat, and informational, it gives me a sense of space in the picture. Everything is where it is and not crumbled, there is no advertisement or coupons that will make it complicated. The way I wanted to change it is to make the white rectangle into a shape of bookmarks or other interesting shapes. Then I can change the color and background to match my cover. The masthead is Voyage, it means a journey, to travel. I chose this word because it also gives a very adventurous feel, its more exciting than just a journey or travel.
The masthead has a shadow cast over it, I borrow this idea from the original template and I feel it would go along with the sunlight shines from behind. I also chose two types of fonts for the subheading or the cover lines and the description. The subheading is in a much larger font and the style I chose has a more mysterious feel to it. I wanted to introduce something that people might not know about the canyon. The colors I chose for the text are corresponding to the picture in the background too. I arrange the text to the right of the page so that the audience can have a better picture of the image in the background. The image in the background a part of the canyon that is famous for its horseshoe shape. This is also a place where I visited on my road trip. The picture is taken from a high angle and I stretched it out so that it covers the entire page. I didn't include a person or human figure because I feel that the picture is good enough and I also think that there is a mystery feel about the canyon. The idea that it is waiting for someone to explore it. The language of my cover is colloquial and more of a friendly tone that kind of persuade or entertain the audience to explore the magazine and explore the canyon. The grand canyon is mostly known for the unique formations of the cracks and edges. I want to introduce a different kind or part of the canyon that people may not have much knowledge of. The two lines at the bottom of the cover are unique places and unique experiences. I feel that every place is unique and everyone will have a different feeling and experience. |
